Join the 1.5°C business leaders
‘Business Ambition for 1.5°C’ is an urgent call to action from a global coalition of UN agencies, business and industry leaders.
We’re calling on companies to commit to set ambitious science-based emissions reduction targets.
By setting a net-zero target in line with a 1.5°C future — our only future — businesses can make their critical contribution to limiting the worst impacts of climate change.
To hold off some of the worst climate impacts, and avoid irreversible damage to our societies, economies and the natural world, we must hold temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This requires halving greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and hitting net-zero emissions by 2050.
That’s why we are inviting visionary business leaders to publicly commit their companies to a net-zero, 1.5°C target and be recognized in the lead up to COP 26 in November 2021. Leading companies are already proving that a 1.5°C-compliant business model is possible, and there is evidence that these companies will be best-placed to thrive as the global economy undergoes a just transition to a net-zero future by 2050.

For companies with existing SBTs, we invite you to voluntarily boost the ambition level of your current targets and align your scopes 1 and 2 ambition, along with scope 3 where relevant, with a 1.5°C pathway. Learn more.

Frequently asked questions
Companies signing the Business Ambition for 1.5°C commitment letter are committing to net-zero emissions. In the commitment letter, we strongly encourage companies to commit to long-term science-based net-zero targets as well as interim targets in line with net-zero pathways and limiting warming to 1.5°C.
The SBTi has launched a process to develop the first science-based global standard for corporate net-zero targets, to ensure that companies’ net-zero targets translate into action that is consistent with achieving a net-zero world by no later than 2050. Companies making the Business Ambition for 1.5°C commitment will be expected to follow this framework. We will seek feedback from stakeholders throughout this process and we encourage companies making the Business Ambition for 1.5°C commitment to be part of this process.
The Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign is a partner in the Race to Zero campaign.
The yobet娱乐app initiative (SBTi) has translated the scenarios and pathways underlying the IPCC SR15 into a set of resources that companies can use to model 1.5°C-aligned targets. This includes a technical paper providing details about how IPCC SR15 pathways are being used by the SBTi to inform our target-setting criteria and validations protocols, and a science-based target setting tool. For more information about the SBTi criteria on emissions reductions targets setting, validation process and available resources, please consult the step-by-step guide.
Companies that have already aligned ambition to 1.5°C across all relevant scopes are strongly encouraged to join the Business Ambition for 1.5°C signatories, and to use their influence to incentivise other companies to follow suit and national governments to set supportive policies and targets for a net-zero emissions economy. We encourage all companies joining the Business Ambition for 1.5°C to amplify their leadership by engaging their peers and policymakers, talking about their increased level of ambition and the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign at conferences, events, and industry group meetings. A set of communications resources is provided when companies formally join the Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign.
